About Us - Hill and Sea Soap

Hi there, I'm Jen, the maker and owner of Hill and Sea Soap!

I have always valued the magic of homemade, sentimental gifts. Over the years, I tried my hand at gifting everything from homemade candles to holiday cookies, but I never quite found that create "spark".

During the holiday season in 2024, I was scrolling through Pinterest to gather ideas on homemade gifts. I stumbled upon beautiful pictures of homemade soaps. Naively, I thought to myself "I can totally do that", and dove headfirst into making a holiday batch for my close friends and family.

I was determined to develop recipes using cleaner and natural products, free from any synthetic dyes or fragrances. After plenty of trial, error, and messy counters, I finalized my first recipes. When my family and friends tried them, my texts were flooded from people saying how much they loved my soaps. From then, I was completely hooked. There was so much passion and excitement in the process- plus, let's be honest, soapmaking is just so dang wholesome!

I knew I wanted to turn this newfound joy into a small business, sharing the exact same clean products with the world that I shared with my own family. And thus, Hill and Sea Soap was born!

The name itself came to me in the quiet moments right after I shut my laptop, having thoroughly laughed at a bunch of terrible ChatGPT name suggestions.

"Hill" represents the beautiful Texas Hill Country we now call home (Austin, TX)

and "Sea" represents my hometown, San Diego, CA (I lived in La Jolla, CA!)

Both places are very near and dear to my heart. I built this business during massive season of change, right as my husband and I were relocating from California to the Austin area. I wanted the name to honor where we come from, where we're going, and all the big dreams we have in between.
