About Us - Hill and Sea

Hi there, I'm Jen, maker and owner of Hill and Sea Soap!

I've always valued homemade and sentimental gifts for the holidays. I've made many homemade gifts (candles and cookies) for friends and family, but never quite found the passion or spark behind candle making or baking (definitely not baking!) (candles are cool).

For Christmas 2024, I was scrolling through Pinterest to gather ideas on homemade gifts. I stumbled upon beautiful pictures of soaps and scrubs. Naively, I thought to myself "I can totally do that", and decided that I wanted to create homemade soap to hand out to friends and family that year. 

I practiced and developed recipes that only included natural products. I didn't want to add synthetic fragrances or dyes in my soaps because I would never want to use those ingredients on myself. After trial and error, I formulated multiple recipes for soap, handed them out to friends and family and many of them messaged me telling me that they loved them! I found a passion and excitement in the process and trials of soap making. Also, it's just so dang wholesome hahaha.

I decided to turn my newfound passion of soap making into a small business to share with the world what I shared with my loved ones. 

And thus, Hill and Sea Soap was born!

I debated for a while what the name of my small (and at the time, non-existent) business would be. I ChatGPT'd "soap business names" and found myself chuckling at the responses. I shut my laptop, got ready for bed, and the name came to me. 

Hill and Sea Soap. 

"Hill" to represent Texas Hill Country / Austin, TX

and "Sea" to represent my hometown, San Diego, CA (I lived in La Jolla, CA!)

Both cities are very near and dear to my heart, and I created this business during a time where change was near. My husband and I were moving from La Jolla, CA to Austin, TX and I wanted the name of this business to represent where we come from, where we're going, and all the big dreams we have in between.
